Fixtures and Results for Arabian Potbellies RFC
1st XV Home to Dubai Dragons III, 17/10/08
This was always going to be a difficult game against Dragons IIIs . 3 weeks after being stuffed by their IIs. If they were a poor team and we won, it would mean little but if they were a good and we lost badly again ...well it would not have been very good for our club. On top of this we had a lot of injuries, players out of the country and it was a freindy match with a very late kick off time a 2 hour drive from home..... it had all the ingredients for a disaster
The omens were not good, before the game either, as although we had enough backs available, our forwards were 'thin on the ground' (loosely speaking) and I had to ask Al Ain Vets to help us out.... which they wereeager to do...thanks ... Al Ain
The good news was that our guys played some superb rugby...the great news was that the Dragons put a strong very well drilled side out. in fact the team that finished the game for the Dragons was virtually the same as the team that put 56 points on us 3 weeks earlier.
....And we won 5 trys to 3 (31 - 21) and this win was as hard come by as it was well deserved....
I cannot praise our potbellies highly enough.... everyone defended and supported in attack..pop-balls and unlikely offloads always found waiting hands..and so many times..it was champaign stuff.
I could mention everyone as having had a great game and i would not exagerate.... ..it was a great team effort and the shape of things to come for the Arabian Potbellies.
Bellies that we knew were talented, well they were outstanding... while others who had not had much chance previously to show what they had to offer ..well they had some bloody inspired performances. .... wow....
