HAPPY NEW YEAR
I would like to thank all our players, supporters and their families for the effort they have put into our rugby club in 2008.
I would especially like to thank all the committee members for all their hard work which is often not realised or fully appreciated by us all.
2008 was a great start for us and we have have considerably succeses in the 'shortened' game formats and 10s and 7s.
Our 15s games have been less successful, on paper (if you just look at scorelines) but everyone who has taken part in or watched our most recent performances will know that we are now not far off the pace in the Emirates league and our first league win will not be far away.
We have collected a few 10s trophies in 2008 in tournaments held in Manila (runners-up), Angeles (runners-up) and Shajah (winners). To achieve this we have beaten some very good teams along the way. In the Dubai 10s we lost only to the two finalists (and one of those games we should have won and we should have been playing in the final in front of 35,000 fans)
In 15s it is fair to say that our averge age and the dreaded F-word is the biggest difference between us and our competition. ....where F = FITNESS.... and yes we are ususally F'd before they are and we have run out of gas at around the 60 minute mark. ... Sadly as we will not be getting any younger in 2009 so there is only one way to remedy this...and that is where T has to be mentioned (for the last time in 2008....) During 2009 we will be less ashamed to use the T word in full as it should be a priority for us all.
2009 presents us with our biggest challenge and our biggest opportunity.... Every club in the UAE suffers from poor attendances post-Dubai7s and it is our challenge to pick up our game where we left it in November and improve on it through until the end of the season, when our rivals will be struggling to maintain their own standards.
It really is in our own hands and with the right attitude we can end our season on a high.
Thanks again to all of you and thanks again to to Bill and Arthur who have continued to push us at TRAINING and who have devoted their spare time to ensuring that we all have a chance to run out on a Friday with a realistic chance of victory...
Thanks guys
